Dr. V. J. Purushotham is a distinguished orthopaedic surgeon specializing in joint replacement surgeries, with decades of experience in treating complex musculoskeletal conditions. Known for his surgical expertise, academic contributions, and dedication to patient care, he has earned recognition as one of the leading orthopaedic surgeons in the country. Dr. V. J. Purushotham completed his medical education at Mysore Medical College, graduating with honors before pursuing specialized training in orthopaedics at the same institution, where he completed his Diploma in Orthopaedics (D’Ortho). He further advanced his surgical training by obtaining his Master’s degree in Orthopaedic Surgery from Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Mangalore.
To deepen his expertise in joint replacement surgery, Dr. Purushotham underwent advanced fellowships in the United Kingdom. He completed specialized training in Joint Replacement Surgery at King’s College Hospital, London, and at the renowned Charnley’s Joint Replacement Centre in Wrightington, UK, one of the world’s pioneering institutions in joint replacement surgery.
Over the years, Dr. Purushotham has built an outstanding reputation for excellence in orthopaedic care, particularly in hip and knee joint replacement procedures. His work combines surgical precision with a strong focus on restoring mobility and improving quality of life for his patients.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Purushotham has had a long and distinguished academic and public service career. In 1988, he joined the Karnataka Health Services, and since 1992, he has been associated with Bowring and Victoria Hospitals in Bengaluru, where he has played an important role in both patient care and orthopaedic training.

He currently serves as a Professor of Orthopaedics at Bangalore Medical College, where he contributes to the education and mentorship of the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons. Earlier in his career, he also served as the Chairman of the Disability Board at Victoria Hospital and was the Head of the Department of Orthopaedics at ESI Medical College from 2012 to 2014.
Dr. Purushotham has also played an active leadership role in the professional orthopaedic community. He served as the President of the Karnataka Orthopaedic Association (KOA) for the year 2018–2019, during which he emphasized the theme: “Uphold professional integrity; Retain patients’ faith.”
With decades of surgical experience and thousands of successful procedures, Dr. Purushotham is widely regarded as one of the most experienced joint replacement surgeons in the country.
